INEC Should Conduct LG Elections...AGF

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi has reiterated the need to withdraw the conduct of local government's election from state electoral bodies.

Fagbemi noted this at the Commissioning of the Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN) Bar Centre Annex by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, within the premises of the Aare Afe Babalola Bar Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan.

According to him, in spite of the constitutional provisions that were meant to safeguard local governments’ autonomy, there have been cases of arbitrary dissolution, abolition or fragmentation of local governments by the higher tiers of government, particularly the State Govts.

The chief justice of Nigeria , Justice Olukayode Ariwoola in his own remarks describe the late NBA President has a patriot who stood for justice and rule of law at all times.

Earlier in their separate remarks, the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa who was represented by his deputy, Olayide Adelami at the event and the chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ibadan Chapter, Folasade Aladeniyi said naming the building in honour of the late governor of Ondo State was done in recognition of his indelible impact in the legal profession as well as his legacy of leadership in the state..
