Governors move for state Police

The Nigerian Governors Forum has set up a six man committee to explore the option of actualizing state police in the country.


 The committee which has representative from the six geo-Political zones of the country was mandated to come up with the best way of policing the country in view of the myriads of security challenges and its attendant lost of lives.

The forum took the decision after a closed-door meeting between governors and the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa.

Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum and Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari who addressed journalists after the meeting said the meeting was dominated by the presentation made by the Inspector General of Police.

Yari said also said that IGP Ibrahim sought permission for the establishment of media outfits like radio and television for the Police Force.

Earlier, IGP Ibrahim said that security challenges in the country dominated discussions at the meeting, he stressed that the meeting prompted support of the governors to the force.

Idris commended the forum saying he never expected less since insecurity in the country requires participation of every citizen.
