FG restates commitment to free education

FG restates commitment to free education

The federal government has restated its commitment to free and compulsory education for all Nigerian children for the first nine years of their lives.


 

The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo who re-affirmed this position stated that the federal government cannot force compulsory education on any state.

Speaking at a service in Ibadan to commemorate the commencement of a new private university in Ibadan, the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo restated the commitment of the Buhari led administration to free and compulsory education.

Prof. Osinbajo who commended the free education policy of the setup Makinde led government in the state noted that the government at the centre cannot force free education on any state.

While he promised the federal government support for all private universities in the country, Prof Osinbajo equally assured state governments that the present administration will continue to support them in the area of free education.

Earlier, Governor Seyi Makinde declared that free education has come to stay in Oyo state adding that education remains the bedroom for poverty alleviation and empowerment for the youth.

Makinde assured the gathering that his government would lay all necessary foundation for free and compulsory education in the state.
