FG Announces Measures on Welfare of Police Officers in Nigeria

The Federal Government says it is taking decisive steps to improve the welfare of police officers across the country. These efforts include providing better housing, modern equipment, and access to clean energy, all aimed at boosting morale and enhancing operational efficiency. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, made the disclosure at the inaugural National Police Day celebration, which he officially declared for April 7. 

 

The day is set aside to recognize the critical role and sacrifices of the Nigeria Police Force. For the first time in the nation’s history, Nigeria now has a dedicated day to honor its police officers. The inaugural National Police Day was marked with a grand parade in Abuja, featuring inspections of guards, a silent drill, and displays symbolizing courage, sacrifice, and dedication to duty.

 

Vice President Shettima, on behalf of the President, announced new initiatives to improve police welfare, including enhanced housing and access to clean energy solutions. The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to reform and accountability, emphasizing professionalism and a people centered approach to policing

 

A minute silence was observed in honor of fallen heroes who paid the Supreme price in service to the nation. The maiden National Police Day celebration brought together security agencies, police veterans, and dignitaries in a show of unity and respect for the men and women of the Nigeria Police Force.
