Ex-militants destroy refineries in Delta
Ex-militants under the coastal community of Obodo in Warri south local government area of Delta state, have destroyed two illegal refineries in the region.
According to reports, the destruction of the refineries was to attract the federal government's attention in the proposed pipeline surveillance contract for ex-militants.
As part of the efforts to curb the ex-militants’ nefarious activities in the area, some ex-militants under the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) in the coastal community of Obodo in Warri, have promised support for the federal government in reducing crude oil theft in the region.
Speaking on their mission after setting the illegal refineries ablaze, the ex-militant leader said criminal activities will be reduced with their presence in the creeks.
He spoke on their partnership with the military while the community chairman said they are in support of the activities of the ex-militants.
It will be recalled that since the federal government promised to engage ex-militants to protect oil facilities in the Niger Delta, different groups have been showing interest to key into the federal government initiative.
