Emir Sanusi's Dethronement: CUPP Describes Action as Unconstitutional.

Barely twenty-four hours after the dethronement of Emir Of Kano State, Mallam Mohammed Sanusi 11, the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has described the former Emir’s banishment as a grave assault on Constitutional Democracy and Fundamental Human Rights.

Spokesperson of the Coalition, Ikenga Ugochinyere gave the description while addressing journalists, in Abuja, Tuesday.

Ugochinyere further described the dethronement as mundane and assault on the former Emir’s rights as a Nigerian citizen as enshrined in sections 34, through to section 41 of the 1999 constitution as amended.

He added that the Emir was not given the right to be heard which renders the action of the Kano State Executive Council illegal and unconstitutional.

The coalition insists that no Governor or President has the right to banish a Nigerian citizen or forcefully move him to any location in violation of his right of movement and life, except by an order of the court.

Ikenga, however, urged the people of the council to seek redress in court to set aside the obnoxious action for the good of the Nation and others who may be treated like him.

The kano state executive council after its Monday meeting decided to dethrone the former for insubordination.
