Delta flood victims seek urgent government intervention

Despite the claim of enough IDP camps for victims affected by flooding, coastal residents of Okoloba community in Burutu local government area of Delta state have appealed to the Delta state government to come to their aid as they can no longer farm, amid health challenges as a result of the rising water level.

This is coming as schools, places of worship remain permanently shut to avert epidemic outbreak in the oil-rich community.

Speaking on the effect of flooding, some community leaders lament over their present state and the failed shore protection project by the Niger Delta Development Commission.

Some fishermen who spoke lament the present state of hunger in the community as a nursing mother calls for medical attention.

The entire coastal community is still submerged underwater despite being flooded for over a week, while children have been moved to higher ground by their parents with schools to resume next year as a result of flooding.
