Breaking News: Justice Egwatu Rescues Self From Malami's Case

The presiding Judge of the Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja, handling the trial of Abubakar Malami, former Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF, and Minister of Justice; Justice Obiora Egwatu, has recused himself from an asset forfeiture case against the former AGF and two others.

Justice Egwatu, after counsel representing the parties announced their appearances, informed the court that he is recusing himself from the charge and other related charges for personal reasons.

He, however, ordered that the case file be forwarded to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court for reassignment.

Justice Emeka Nwite of a sister court had, on January 6, ordered the interim forfeiture of 57 properties suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities linked to Malami to the Federal Government.
