The Nigerian Baptist Convention has said that the process of appointing its next President, to succeed Reverend Supo Ayokunle, is ongoing and has not been concluded.

This clarification apparently comes against the backdrop of the reported emergence of Reverend Dr Israel Akanji as next President of the convention.

The Convention in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Pastor Eben Durodola said the executive committee of the Nigerian Baptist Convention had only accepted the recommendation and nomination of Reverend Akanji but it had not been ratified.

While commending the search committee members for their diligence at arriving at their recommendation, the convention urged Baptist members to remain steadfast in prayers and look forward to the convention-in-session scheduled for April.
