2000 Almajiris Quarantined in Kano Says Govt

Kano State Government says it has quarantined 2000 almajiris to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the state.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Aminu Tsanyawa disclosed this in a statement adding that the almajiris which include those that had been repatriated from other states to Kano would be tested for COVID-19.

He said that those that test positive for the virus would be taken to isolation centres for treatment, while those that are negative would be taken back to their homes and be reunited with their parents.

The state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje had earlier described the almajiris as the most vulnerable to the virus, saying that the Almajiris are subjected to health threats as they have no shelter, living in congestion with no proper sanitation, emphasizing that quarantining and subjecting them to health care is the only way forward.
