Tribunal Sacks Kasamu, Five Others In Ogun State
The National and House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun State has nullified the election of Senator Buruji Kasamu of the Peoples Democratic Party representing the People of Ogun East Senatorial District under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party at the National Assembly.
As a fall out of the last general elections conducted in the state, some aggrieved candidates had approached the election petition tribunal sitting in the state for adjudication on their grievances concerning the outcome of the poll.
It will be recalled that the Senatorial Candidate of the All Progressive Congress in the Ogun East, Dapo Abiodun had approached the Tribunal seeking the order of the court to nullify the victory of Senator Kasamu stressing that he was not duly elected in the National Assembly Election conducted in the Senatorial district.
Delivering the judgement on petitions bothering on National and House of Assembly elections conducted in the last general election, the Chairman of the National and House of Assembly Tribunal in the state, Justice Ebiowei Tobi nullified the election of Senator Buruji Kasamu representing the People of Ogun East Senatorial district at the national Assembly.
The decision of the three man panel as conveyed by Justice Tobi was premised on the fact that the poll was marred with various irregularities, violence and non compliance with the provision of the electoral act.
Justice Ebiowei Tobi declared a re-run to be conducted at 110 polling unit of the 8 out of 9 Local government areas, that made up the Senatorial district.
Rerun has therefore been ordered in the affected area within 90 days by the tribunal.
In the same vein, the three man National and House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal also nullified the elections of five law makers of the Ogun State House of Assembly over non compliance with the electoral law.
