Xenophobic attacks: Reps to visit S/Africa

House of Representatives on Wednesday has resolved to send delegation comprising members of the National Assembly and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to meet with the South African Government over the growing xenophobic attacks on Nigerians

The resolution was sequel to the passage of a motion by the chairman, House Committee on Diaspora Affairs, Rita Orji, who brought the issue to the notice of the house.

The lawmaker while moving the motion chronicled attacks on Nigerians; burning and looting of their properties in South Africa.

The lawmakers also criticised the apathy of the Nigerian government officials and agencies especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Green Chamber in its resolution also urged the Justice Department of Foreign Affairs to independently investigate the immediate and remote causes of the attacks so as to arrive at acceptable conclusions.

The resolution was passed without a dissenting voice when the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara called for a vote.
