The Presidential Task Force Committee on COVID-19 has revealed that coronavirus pandemic is one of the reasons responsible for the mysterious deaths recently recorded in Kano State.

The Leader of the team, Dr Nasiru Sani Gwarzo disclosed this in Kano on the occasion of the donation of a mobile testing laboratory to the state by the Aliko Dangote Foundation.

According to Dr Sani Gwarzo, the investigation carried out on the recent spike in the mass deaths in the state through verbal autopsy and test carried out has been established that COVID-19 is the reason for most of the deaths.

He says age of the deceased persons, concentration of the people in one place and tests carried out shows that the deaths have elements of COVID-19.

The Presidential Taskforce team leader said that awareness is the main problem, adding that the problem will persist until Kano residents are ready to accept the reality that COVID-19 is real and take precautionary measures. 

In an earlier interview the Kano state COVID-19 rapid task force chairman, Dr Hussani Tijani said no doubt the COVID-19 rate in Kano is high and urges the people not to be afraid to come out to get tested because they would be adequately provided for in the isolation centre if they test positive to the virus.
