Ekiti Jungle Justice: Police Warned Residents Against Act

Residents of Ekiti State have been warned to desist from the act of killing any one in the name of Jungle Justice or extra judicial killing which has become a norm in the Nigerian society.

The Police Commissioner in the State, Felix Uyanna gave the warning while speaking with journalists in an apparent reaction to the case of a suspected kidnapper who was burnt to death in Ikere Ekiti.

The Police have been using all fora to discourage the act, citing relevant laws and penalties to deal ruthlessly with offenders.

The people believe carrying out such act is the solution to incessant kidnap, owing to the allegation of complicity on the side of the police in letting the suspect out of the hook.

Police boss say they were not informed about the case and insisted the man killed was innocent.

The act of Jungle Justice is gradually becoming a daily activity and some people believe it is the best judgment for those caught in the act of Kidnapping, but the law does not allow for that and 3 person have been arrested on the Ikere Ekiti case.

It would be recalled that the residents had taken people including newsmen to the brush where the victim was allegedly caught where a shallow grave was dug with thick smell emanating from the spot.

The question posed by this ugly incident remains whether Jungle Justice or Extra judicial killing is the solution to kidnapper and robbers.
