Nigeria picks camp base for Russia 2018
Nigeria have settled for the city of Yessentuki as their training base for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Yessentuki is a city in Stavropol Krai, Russia, located at the base of the Caucasus Mountains.It is considered the cultural capital of Russia’s Greek with ten percent of its population of Greek descent and has 100,996 inhabitants according to the result of the 2010 census conducted in the country
The governor of the Stavropol Territory where Yessentuki is located, Vladimir Vladimirov, stated that they have accepted the proposal by officials of the Nigeria Football Federation to use city as their training base for the World Cup.
“The Nigerian national team will use Yessentuki as their base at the 2018 World Cup.The authorities of the region will give adequate attention to each team that has chosen the base.
“I hope the national team of Nigeria will rise high in the standings, but hopefully not to beat our team. Five training bases were built in the territory for the World Cup. They are Kislovodsk, Yessentuki, Lermontov and two bases in Zheleznovodsk.
The bases have stadiums with a football field measuring 110 m by 70 m, there are administrative and utility rooms with changing rooms and a conference hall, stands for 500 seats and more, as well as parking spaces.Each playground is paired with a hotel where athletes will live, train, and will leave for Mineralnye Vody airport.
The Super Eagles are drawn in Group D with Croatia, Iceland and Argentina.The three-time African champions will face Croatia in their first group game at the Kaliningrad Stadium on June 16.Their second game is against Iceland at the Volgograd Arena on June 22, while they will take on Argentina in their last group game on June 26 at the Krestovsky Stadium, St Petersburg
