The senior national basketball team of Nigeria, D’Tigress, flies high in the FIBA qualifying competition for the 2026 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup in Germany, with a 70-37 victory defeat of Colombia in Villeurbanne, France.

Led by Coach Rena Wakama, D'Tigree set on an inroad into the qualifying competition with early lead of 18-12 at the end of the first quarter.

The 2026 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup will feature 16 national teams competing for global supremacy in women’s basketball later in 2026 in Berlin, Germany.

The teams that will complete the tournament lineup will emerge from Qualifying Tournaments scheduled for March 2026, beginning on 11th March. These qualifiers will play a decisive role in shaping the final field for the World Cup.

A total of four qualifying tournaments will be held, with six teams competing in each tournament. Through these competitions, the remaining teams will secure their places in the World Cup, bringing the total number of participants to 16 nations.

The host nation, Germany, alongside the champions of the 2025 Women’s Continental Cups, will take part in the qualifying tournaments despite already securing automatic qualification.

These continental champions include Australia, Belgium, The United States and Nigeria.

Although these teams are guaranteed spots at the World Cup, their participation in the qualifying tournaments is designed to maintain competitive balance and determine the remaining nations that will join them in Berlin.

Together, the qualifiers will finalize the 16-team lineup for what promises to be a highly competitive global showcase of women’s basketball.
