Iwobi ruled out Of Nigeria, Cameroon clash
Arsenal forward Alex Iwobi has withdrawn from the Super Eagles squad to face Cameroon over two legs in crucial 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
Iwobi, who has made two appearance for the Gunners this season, copped a thigh muscle injury in training which will keep him out of action for at least two weeks, it was gathered.
A tweet on the official handle of the Nigeria Super Eagles reads: “Just in: Aaron Samuel called in to replace injured Alex Iwobi. Uche Agbo also invited.”
The 21-year-old Iwobi has been a mainstay in the Super Eagles squad since he made his debut for the team against DR Congo in an international friendly under former coach Sunday Oliseh in October 8, 2015.
Iwobi has made 11 international appearances for the three-time African champions with his only goal coming against Zambia in Nigeria’s 2-1 win in a World Cup qualifier away in Ndola on matchday 1.In his absence CSKA Moscow striker Samuel has been drafted by coach Gernot Rohr to join up with the squad in Uyo. He also will be joined by Standard Liege’s defender Uche Agbo
