Bonus Goals: How Nicolas Jover Is Quietly Cashing In on Arsenal’s Corners

When Arsenal score from a corner these days, it’s not just the Emirates that erupts — somewhere behind the scenes, Nicolas Jover might be smiling too.

The Gunners’ highly-rated set-piece coach reportedly has a unique clause in his contract: every time Mikel Arteta’s side score from a set-piece situation, Jover earns a bonus.

On Sunday, Arsenal delivered again — twice from corners in a 2-1 win over Chelsea FC. That takes their Premier League tally to 16 goals from corners this season — a staggering number that now equals the all-time record for most corner-kick goals in a single campaign.

That record was previously set by Oldham Athletic in 1992-93, matched by West Bromwich Albion in 2016-17, and even equalled by Arsenal themselves just last season.

But this isn’t just about statistics — it’s about identity. Arsenal have become feared at dead-ball situations. Every corner feels rehearsed. Every delivery carries belief. Every movement looks intentional.

Jover, once a behind-the-scenes figure, is now widely regarded as one of the most influential specialist coaches in English football. And with several matches still to play before May, Arsenal look well on course to break the record outright — and perhaps add a few more bonus payments to their set-piece mastermind along the way.
