Six Die, Eight Injured In Osun Road Accident
No fewer than six persons, including two students of the Bells Secondary School in Ota, Ogun State, lost their lives in a fatal motor accident along Ife/Ibadan road on Saturday evening.
According to an eyewitness account, the accident which involved a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number Ogun AP 555 TP occurred at about 6.30 p.m. in Ikire, headquarters of Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State.
The bus, which conveyed some students of Bells Secondary School, Ota, who were returning from an excursion to Abuja, according to an eyewitness, had one of its rear tyres burst while on motion.
It was gathered that the fatality of the accident was as a result of high speed by the driver of the bus.
Meanwhile, the driver of the 18 seater bus survived the accident, but sustained serious injuries.
The FRSC officers and officials of the Osun State Ambulance Service took the survivors of the accident to the General Hospital in Ikire.
However, the corpses of the accident victims were said to have been deposited in the mortuary of the hospital.
The management of Bells Secondary School, in a telephone conversation, confirmed that some students of the school went on an excursion with the approval of the school authorities.
An official of the school, whose name was not mentioned, said: "We are already aware of the incident and we are making efforts to recover their corpses from the hospital.
