Suspected Amotekun Officer Allegedly Shot a 21-Year Boy In Ibadan

A Suspected operative of Oyo State Amotekun Corp has been accused of shooting 21-year-old Oluwatosin Thomas.

The victim has been confirmed dead by medical personnel from the University College Hospital, Ibadan.

The incident occurred at Inalende area of Ibadan, the Oyo state capital city

Oluwatosin was said to have been hit by a stray bullet and was seen on the ground in the pool of his own blood after the shooting stopped

It could not be ascertained what prompted the shooting or if they were invited for security measures as at the time of filing this report.

The mother of the victim, Mrs Thomas when contacted said she ran to the spot as soon as she received the news, challenging the officers on why her son was shot.

She also alleged the operatives of assaulting her and threatened to kill her alongside a brother of the deceased.

She added that in her struggle to grab one of the operatives who allegedly shot his son, she tore the uniform of one of the officers before the vehicle with number 012 drove off, leaving the boy in the pool of his own blood.

Another source who resides in the area and who simply identified himself as Mr Laide said that Oluwatosin was rejected at the University College Hospital where he was rushed to.

However, Amotekun Commandant Col. Olayinka Olayanju (rtd.) when contacted said he has started investigating the matter as soon as he got wind of the development.

He said he had invited the leaders of the Corps in the area where the incident occurred for proper briefing and would ascertain the claims.

Olayanju promised to get back as soon as he finds out the true situation of what transpired.

He assured that any member of the Corps found guilty would be made to face the full wrath of the law.

Also, the State Police Command has confirmed the death of Oluwatosin Thomas. The Command through a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Olugbenga Fadeyi said a report was received at Mokola police division that one Tosin Thomas was hit by stray bullets from an Amotekun officer at Ode-Olo area of Ibadan.

Police has since commenced investigation on the matter.
