Senate considers review of penalties

The National Assembly has indicated it's plans to review penalties for those arrested in connection with vandalization of government facilities across the country.

The Chairman Senate Committee on Power, Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe made the disclosure while addressing Journalists in Abuja at the end of the oversight function of his committee to the Ministry of Power and Transmission Company of Nigeria.

Abaribe, who made decried the spate of vandalization of facilities meant for power generation and distribution across the country, especially in the northeast, said this has impacted negatively on power supply in the country.

He added majority of the lawmakers have also had their own share of the ugly trend with the vandalization of solar lights installed across Senatorial districts by unknown persons.

The Chairman Senate Committee on Power maintained that the although, there is a law with penalties for vandals but such has to be looked into, in order to determine appropriate punishment foe for a particular offence.
