Rivers government dismisses appeal court judgement
The Rivers state government has insisted that the appeal court judgement on Thursday in Abuja did not reinstate the Martins Amaewhule led faction of the state house of assembly.

This was made known in a statement by the Rivers state attorney general Justice Israel Dagogo in Port Harcourt the state capital.

According to the statement, the Rivers state government classified that Amaewhule and 26 others had defected on December 11th, 2023, adding that their seats automatically became vacant the day they announced their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress to the whole world.

The attorney general insisted that the issue of defection of Amaewhule and 26 others was never before the federal high court and the court of appeal Abuja, hence no court has legitimised their membership of the house of assembly on the basis of the defection.

He added that the Rivers state governor Siminalayi Fubara has directed his lawyers to file an appeal against the judgement of the court of appeal to the supreme Court and also file an application for stay of execution of the judgement of the court of appeal that maintains the status quo.
