The House of Representatives has criticized the Presidency for violating the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2007 by failing to present the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Policy Paper (FSP) to the National Assembly on time.

This breach, involving a delay beyond the four months before the end of the fiscal year, was addressed through a motion of public importance sponsored by Hon. Clement Jimbo.

He emphasized that the Fiscal Responsibility Act ensures prudent management of national resources, economic stability, and greater transparency in fiscal operations. It also mandates that the Federal Government submit an MTEF for the next three financial years to the National Assembly within the required timeframe.

The House expressed concern that this delay undermines its ability to perform its constitutional duties, as outlined in Sections 88 and 89 of the 1999 Constitution and Section 30(1) of the Fiscal Responsibility Act.

They warned that the Executive's non-compliance hampers the legislative process and the oversight role of the National Assembly.

The House of Representatives also urged the Federal Ministry of Works to allocate 20 per cent of its 2025 Appropriation to the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency to enhance its operations.
