Protest in Ekiti over suspension of lawmaker
Residents of Omuo-Ekiti in Ekiti north local government area of Ekiti state on Friday stormed major streets of the town to protest the suspension of the member representing the constituency, Fajana Ojo Ade by the state house of assembly.
Ojo Ade was suspended for one hundred and one legislative days on the 30th of August 2017 by the house on allegation of hobnobbing with sen. Biodun olujimi,
The protesters mainly youths are however demanding the immediate recall of the lawmaker, saying his suspension was illegal and unconstitutional.
These are the youths of Omuo Ekiti in Ekiti north local government area of Ekiti state; they are out to protest the suspension of the member representing their constituency.
The protesters however issued a one week ultimatum to the leadership of the house to restore the lawmaker or face legal action.
The embattled lawmaker was suspended after a disciplinary committee set up by the speaker of the house, Kola Oluwawole accused him of gross misconduct, attempt to impeach the speaker, violence and physical attack on other members of house.
In his reaction the chairman Ekiti state house of assembly, committee on information, Ssameul Omotoso described the protest as uncalled for, saying Ojo Ade’s suspension stands.
What many await to see is what will be the next line of action of the protesters at the expiration of the one week ultimatum issued out by the protesters to the leadership of the house to recall the suspended lawmaker.
