President Tinubu Writes Senate on Improved Judicial Officer Welfare
President Bola Tinubu has written an executive bill to the Senate aimed at establishing enhanced salary, allowances, and official benefits for judicial officers.
This was revealed through a letter read by the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, on Wednesday.
The bill, titled "Judicial Office Holders Salaries and Allowances, etc., Bill 2024," is designed to create a new legal framework for remunerating judicial officers, ultimately enhancing their welfare and well-being. President Tinubu emphasized in the letter that this legislative initiative would bolster the independence and capacity of Nigeria's judicial system.
Acknowledging the prolonged stagnation in judicial officers' remuneration, the bill seeks to address these concerns by prescribing updated salaries, allowances, and benefits. President Tinubu underscored the importance of aligning these provisions with contemporary socioeconomic realities.
Following the reading of the letter, Senator Godswill Akpabio referred the bill to Senator Mohammed Monguno, representing Borno North and chairing the Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, and Legal Matters, along with Senator Sani Musa, representing Niger East and leading the Committee on Finance. They have been tasked to review the bill and provide feedback within a timeframe of two weeks.
