President Tinubu Swears In South East NASC Board Member, Kalu

President Bola Tinubu has officially swore in Dr NnannaUzor Kalu as a commissioner representing the South-East geopolitical zone in the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC).

This long-awaited swearing-in ceremony took place shortly before the commencement of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the State House, Abuja.

Kalu’s appointment had been confirmed by the Senate following a thorough review and dismissal of a petition that had initially stalled his confirmation in March. The Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service, led by Senator Cyril Fasuyi, presented the report recommending Kalu’s confirmation after the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct and Public Petitions found no grounds to disqualify him.

President Tinubu had earlier in May administered oaths to SaviourEnyiekere as Chairman of NASC and other commissioners

The event underscored a milestone for the South-East zone, which had previously lacked representation on the commission.

The council also observed a minute’s silence in honour of Caleb Olubolade, former Minister of Special Duties, Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, and Minister of Police Affairs under the Goodluck Jonathan administration, who collapsed while playing lawn tennis.

Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Affairs Office in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, EmansoUmobongOkop, who represented the SGF, announced the death to the council and called for a minute’s silence in his honour.

Those attending the council meeting are Vice President KashimShettima, representative of Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, Head of Service of the Federation Didi Walson-Jack, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and several ministers.
