NUC Approves Establishment of Cross River State University

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the establishment of the Cross River State University of Education and Entrepreneurship, making it the 67th state university in Nigeria.
The Executive Secretary of the Commission, Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, while presenting the letter of recognition to Governor Prince Bassey Edet Otu in Abuja, stated that the university will foster innovation, entrepreneurship, and educational development, equipping students with essential skills for the modern economy.
GALAXY TV reports that Ribadu emphasized that the approval aligns with the NUC’s mandate to regulate and maintain quality assurance in Nigerian universities.
He urged all stakeholders to collaborate in ensuring the institution maintains high academic standards, research excellence, and good governance. The NUC, he assured, will continue to support the university’s development.
Speaking on behalf of the Governor, Prof. Anthony Owan-Enoh, Secretary to the State Government, described the university’s approval as a long-awaited achievement.
He highlighted the state’s efforts in meeting NUC’s requirements and expressed confidence that the institution will help address unemployment challenges.
With this development, the number of State Universities in Nigeria is now 67.
