NADDC Lobbies NASS On Automotive Industry Dev Bill

The National Automotive Design and Development Council, NADDC, is lobbying the National Assembly to pass the Nigerian Automotive Industry Development Plan Bill to facilitate operations and drive meaningful impact in the sector.

NADDC Director General, Joseph Osanipin, at a capacity-building programme in Abuja, highlighted the need for strong legislative backing to attract investment, protect local industries, and foster technology transfer.

He said that investors require certainty and long-term stability before committing capital to the sector.

Osanipin stated that the automotive industry is capital-intensive and requires strong government support, policy consistency and investor confidence to succeed.

He highlighted efforts by the council to deepen local capacity through the training of over 15,000 technicians nationwide, promotion of local component manufacturing and collaboration with assemblers to support domestic production.

The House of Representatives spokesman, Hon Akin Rotimi, was of the view that the automotive sector sits at the intersection of industrialization, job creation, local content development and economic diversification, aligning with the National Assembly’s legislative agenda on economic growth.

He commended NADDC for providing technical leadership and policy direction for the industry.

Chairman of the FCT Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Grace Ike, and Chairman of the House of Representatives Press Corps, Gboyega Onadiran, emphasised the importance of legislative reporting in promoting transparency, accountability and public understanding.

The session provided insights into the automotive development plan, legislative frameworks and policy directions for the sector.
