Minister of Niger Delta Affairs gives account

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Pastor Usani Uguru Usani says, the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari was able to establish an enduring peace in the Niger Delta regions with the implementation of projects that cut across all communities in the area.


 Uguru said this in Abuja, Monday, while giving scorecard of his ministry for the past three years. 

He said projects that were successfully executed by all the departments in the ministry had a positive impact on education, commerce and general infrastructural development in the Niger Delta, stressing the need to sustain the effort for lasting harmony.

According to the scorecard presented by the minister, the department of community development and education in the ministry implemented programs and projects which improved community relations and engagement in the region.

The minister added that between 2015 and 2018, the economic empowerment department of the ministry was able to train hundreds of youths under various entrepreneurship programs, established nine integrated oil palm processing plants in Umuehihe with eight of them yet to be completed. 

He stated that a similar project in Egbelu community in Imo State was at 35 percent completion as of January 2019.

On his part, minister of state, ministry of Niger Delta affairs, Prof Claudius Omoleye, said urgency to deliver dividends of democracy to people was aligned with their commitment and seriousness of assignments to bring about peace, security, and development to the region.

He also added that daunting challenges of developing the Niger Delta region may not have been completely removed by their effort but convinced that the next dispensation in the administration of Niger Delta, their prudence and diligence in solving the problem of Niger Delta.
