Minimum wage: state will pay according to their capacity - NGF

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum says payment of minimum wage consequential adjustments will be determined by the revenue base of individual state

This decision comes just days after the Federal Executive Council ordered that payments of the new minimum wage and the consequential adjustments, be completed by the 31st of December, 2019.

Speaking to journalists a meeting of the forum held in Abuja, Monday, Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Ekiti State, Fayemi Kayode, gave an assurance that governors are ready to comply with the 30,000 minimum wage as agreed by the tripartite negotiation committee.

He, however, explained that they cannot be forced to comply with the consequential adjustment but states must be allowed to pay based on their Internal Generated Revenue capacity.

Fayemi also said the payment will be determined majorly by the number of civil servants on each state’s payroll.

The NGF also remembered Doctor Stella Adedevo who died 2014 from the Ebola virus and saved the country from national disaster when a Liberian, Samuel Sawyer entered the country with the deadly disease.

The forum also commiserated with government and people of Anambra State who lost their loved ones in the fire incident that occurred at Ocahanja market in Onitsha.
