Makinde Signs Amotekun Bill Into Law
Oyo Governor, Seyi Makijde has signed the State Security Agency Bill 2020, otherwise known as Amotekun into law for implementation with a warning to criminals to steer clear of the state and southwest in general.
Makinde who was accompanied by the Speaker of the Assembly, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Oyewole Oyewo, Secretary to the State Government, Olubamiwo Aeesoun and other members of the state executive council says the law is a child of necessity.
Correspondent Kunle Ojo reports that the Governor stated that the law was an outcome of an engagement, negotiations, and alignment among Governors in the region with the aim of protecting the lives and property of their citizens.
Makinde who read the riot act to criminal elements in the state and the southwest at large stated that Amotekun corp is not a replacement for traditional security arrangement but to complement the existing arrangements on the ground.
The Governor also used the avenue provided by the occasion to caution opposition parties in the state to desist from the campaign of calumny against his administration stressing that his government has a well-cut out programs and policies for good governance in the state.
