I’ll Continue to Empower Nigerian Women, President Buhari Promises
President Muhammadu Buhari says Nigerian women will continue to have a place of pride in the current administration.
The President spoke Tuesday at State House, Abuja, while receiving in audience the Executive Director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) Mrs Winnie Byanyima.
The president said his administration will continue to empower women to participate in politics and governance like the Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning and the civil service of the federation which are headed by a woman.
On infrastructure renewal, he noted that the country lost good opportunities, ‘but will not continue to cry over spilt milk as the government is doing its best to put the country on a stronger footing.
The UNAIDS Executive Director described President Buhari as “a Nigerian and African hero,” stating that exploits by Nigeria in the control of the COVID-19 pandemic and HIV/AIDS are quite commendable.
She implored Nigeria to be represented at the very highest level during the special meeting on HIV/AIDS by the United Nations in June, stressing that the meeting, which holds every five years, is meant to renew the resolve by the world to eliminate AIDS by 2030.
The Executive Director asked that more women be helped to take part in active politics.
She said Nigeria has great women and Government should open more space for them in active politics.
