FG Approves Scholarship Program for Teachers in Nigeria.

The federal government has introduced new scholarship program aimed at enhancing the quality of teacher training in Nigeria. The Minister of Education, Prof Tahir Mamman said the initiative was introduced to equip teachers with necessary skills to perform their duties at the highest professional standards.

 

Speaking at a media briefing in celebration of this year's world teachers' day, the Minister of Education, Prof Tahir Mamman highlighted government's commitment to improve teacher welfare and development. Represented by the permanent secretary in the ministry, Sanni Gwazor, the minister emphasized the importance of teachers, noting that they are the backbone of all educational reforms and policies.

He said the key areas being addressed include enhanced teacher training, strengthening foundational learning skills, improving performance monitoring and evaluation, fostering partnerships and coordination, and creating community learning hubs. While restating the commitment of the present administration to creating conducive atmosphere for teachers to operate, the Minister solicited the support of all stakeholders in this regard adding that, despite operating in harsh environment, teachers in Nigeria has distinguished themselves.

On his part, the president of the Nigeria union of teachers, Audu Amba, commended the federal government and ministry for giving priority attention to the plights of teachers in Nigeria. He declared the support of nut to the policies of the present administration towards restoring the lost glory in the education sector. This year’s world teachers' day, has the theme "valuing teachers' voices: towards a new social contract for education.
