The event organized by the Welfare and Safety Committee, Citiview Estate Residents Association, Wawa, Ogun State, had in attendance elders from all walks of life.

 

The senior citizens who were being celebrated became beneficiaries of all the event activities.

 

Speaking with Oluwakemisola Adaraloye, Chairman of Welfare and Safety Committee, Citiview Estate Residents Association, it was gathered that the event kicked of with medical activities, ranging from eye tests to aerobic section.

 

“In the morning, the elderly ones’ vitals were taken; they had eye tests, they had tests on their sugar level, their blood pressures too were observed and there happened to be aerobic section. To be brief, it was all about medicals in the morning because we want our old ones to stay healthy.”

 

Adaraloye further made known that the Estate committee after the day's activities, hosted the celebrants for a dinner at night.

 

On the essentiality of celebrating the elders, Adaraloye added that it is pertinent for everyone to acknowledge that "one day we will all grow to become old and dependent on the younger ones."

 

According to her, the senior citizens are not being catered for and carried along in the activities of the Nigerian society, adding in view of this, Citiview Estate shouldered itself with the responsibility of setting a day aside to celebrate the elderly ones.
