Army trains officers to fight insurgency

The Nigerian government has called on the international community to join hands to tackle hi-level security threats among nations.


Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan Ali made the called at the international seminar on managing asymmetric security challenges in the 21st century organised by the nigerian military in Abuja, Tuesday.

He said it is when there is synergy among nations that the menace of insecurity would be reduced.

Senior military officers and other stakeholders  are gathered here to forge a common front on the new trend of terrorism bedevilling the world.

The conference is coming on the heels of serial attacks by the boko haram and other sects which had claimed thousands of lives.
And with keen interest to facing the challenge, Nigeria’s minister of defence said  much is needed to be done to wittle down impact of attacks prompted by new technologies now employed by the terrorist groups.

For the minister who was represented by the chief of defence staff, general Gabriel Olonisakin, the seminar is expected to achieve diverse contributions to enhance global peace and security especially in the north and south eastern parts of  nigerian.

Many had frowned at the violation of rules of engagement and professionalism by soldiers particularly during counter terrorism activities, this the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant  General Tukur Buratai said was another focus of the conference.

He said the event is to enhance capacity building and training of officers to facilitate adequate knowledge In asymmetric  warfare.

Highpoint of the event is recognition and presentation of plaques to outstanding officers who stood out in their various postings.
