AGF speaks on Maina reinstatement

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami has denied directing the reinstatement of former Chairman, Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina.
Malami refuted the claims while appearing before members of the House of Representatives ad hoc Committee investigating the disappearance, reappearance, reinstatement and promotion of Maina.
The minister said that while the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation was working on correspondence from Maina to intervene in his dismissal, it did not direct his reinstatement.
Malami while acknowledging that there was correspondence from Maina seeking the intervention of the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation for his reinstatement into the public service.
He however, insisted that the letter directing the reinstatement of Maina did not emanate from him
Earlier, the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Winifred Oyo-Ita said that her office received copy of the letter from AGF to the Federal Civil Service Commission directing that Maina be reinstated.
They later said they got hold of the letter of reinstatement of Maina, they held on to it, to seek for further clarification on the letter.
Similarly, the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazzua said that the office of the minister was not involved in the dismissal of Miana in 2013 and his subsequent reinstatement in 2017.
Counsel to Maina, Muhammadu Sanikuta appealed to the committee to prevail on security agencies not to arrest Maina to enable him appear in person before the committee.
Kuta, who claimed that Maina still received salary, argued that he was never sacked.
In his ruling, the Chairman of the ad hoc Committee, Aliyu Madaki directed the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Abubakar Magaji to appear before the Committee on November 30.
House correspondent Tomilola Oyesanmi report that it will be recalled President Muhammadu Buhari had on October 23 dismissed Maina from the Federal Civil Service and demanded a full report of the circumstances of his recall. His dismissal follows his return to the country and his alleged reinstatement into office which sparked reactions and outrages.
The former pension’s boss was declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for an alleged N2billion pensions biometric scam in November 2015, a 24-count bothering on procurement fraud and obtaining money under false Rpretense.
