10 severely injured in two OPC factions clash

No fewer than 10 persons were injured during a clash between a  gang of suspected hoodlums known as 'Gobe' and members of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) in Omi-Adio in Iddo Local Government Area of Oyo State.


The clash was said to have occurred on Monday evening when no fewer than 20 members of the Gobe gang, reportedly led by one Sarafa, allegedly attacked some members of OPC at Ido Junction.

An OPC member, identified as Adigun, had since been hospitalised as a result of the injury he sustained when the hoodlums reportedly used dangerous weapons, such as cutlasses, machetes, and broken bottles on him.

According to eyewitnesses, passers-bys at Ido Junction at the time of the clash were not spared as many of them were also attacked by
dangerous weapons by the hoodlums.

Chairman of the Otunba Gani Adams-led OPC in Ido local government area, Muritala Adekola, was said to have reported the attack on his members at the Omi-Adio police station.

Policemen reportedly swift into action by storming the scene when the clash was still ongoing. The 'Gobe' gang members were said to have immediately taken to their heels, dropping some of their weapons on the ground.

While confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the state, Adekunle Ajisebutu, who confirmed the incident, said  It was a clash between two suspected OPC factions adding that the police reacted swiftly and maintained law and order in the area.

Ajisebutu who said no life was lost during the clash maintained that the situation was immediately put under control as effort is being intensified to arrest suspects behind the clash.

However, the Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Odude, has directed 24hour surveillance and intensive patrol of the area.
