Eight members of staff of the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta have tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

The affected staff consist of Medical Doctors, Nurses and an Administration staff.

Confirming the development to Galaxy News in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital, the Hospital's Head of Public Relations and Information, Segun Orisajo said the members of staff were part of the team that had contact with a two and half years old coronavirus positive toddler who is currently receiving treatment at the Centre's Isolation ward.

Orisajo said the COVID-19 positive status of the affected staff were detected during the round of contact tracing carried out by the hospital’s Infection Control Team.

On his part, the Medical Director, Prof. Adewale Musa-Olomu said none of the staff is asymptomatic; noting that they have been asked to proceed on self-isolation as basic treatment has commenced for them.

The Medical Director, however, reiterated his earlier assurances about the safety of the Centre, both for the workers and patients.
