Police detain Davido's security escorts

The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has reacted to a video that broke out on the internet showing two policemen shooting into the air on the street.


The alleged uniformed men were believed to be working as security escorts for singer, Davido, were shooting into the air on the street in a moving vehicle in Lagos.

According to ACP Abayomi Shogunle, who is also the Head of Public Complaints Rapid Response Unit, attested that investigation started when complaints from members of the public were submitted and it was revealed that the incident took place on July 31 at 5 p.m. along the Murtala Mohammed International Airport road, Lagos.

The Commissioner of police in charge of Police Mobile Force at the Force Headquarters, identified the men following a directive from the Inspector-General of Police.

ttached to a private security company, Infinity Security Company and Davido engaged them to provide escort for him to his house while returning from outside Nigeria.

Shogunle revealed that investigation confirmed that the two policemen involved started shooting into the air for no just cause, and are now in detention. They have been tried in orderly room and punishment has been recommended.

"The conduct of those policemenis unacceptable. They are no longer involved in any duty where they will carry any weapon and will be in detention until the process is over before they will be released," he said.
